Moving to a country with only a backpack doesn’t allow much room to bring anything from home. Therefore, you’re forced to buy things when you arrive at your destination.
The struggles with this is you want to make your room/home feel like home, but you don’t want to spend a lot of money, because you know it’s not your forever home, and you don’t know how long you’ll be in the one place for.
I’m someone who likes to get things started and finished as soon as possible, so for me I wanted my new room in Dunedin to be decorated and homey as soon as possible.
Bed: I got my bed on sale for $500 at Big Save Furniture. It’s not my dream bed, but for $500 it’s pretty good!
Bedside Tables: My bedside tables are no longer available but they are Living & Co Austin from The Warehouse and they were $60 each. They only took me 3 hours to build. Ha!
Lamp: My lamp is also from The Warehouse. It’s not the original lamp I bought, but my original one needed a lightbulb that was impossible to find. This lamp is now $15 bit I believe when I got it, it was $20 or $25, but it can be found here.
Pineapple: I think it’s important to have a couple of things to decorate with so I got this guy from Kmart for $8.
Light box: I’ve always wanted a light box, and when I found this one at Kmart for only $16 I had to buy it!
Succulent: My succulent is also from Kmart and it was $6.
Rug: My rug is another Kmart item, it was on clearance for $9, but now it’s back up to $20.
Throw Pillows: My three throw pillows are from Warehouse. The white one was $12, and the pink ones were $8 each.
Quilt: My quilt is from Kmart and I got it on clearance for $8. They no longer sell it.
Throw Blanket: My throw blanket is another Kmart find and it was $16.
Not pictured but in my closet I have a hanging rack that I got from Storage Box, and it was $30 wish dollars. My hamper is from Kmart and it was $14. I also have two small boxes that are from Kmart that were $6 each.
I still plan to eventually add some artwork and my photos, but I love my little New Zealand bedroom and it cost me a grand total of $787. Not to bad considering the bed was $500.
Hope you enjoyed the tour of my room.
