If you read my June Goals post then you know that one of my goals for the month was to be open to new things. I alluded to the fact that I would be doing something this month, but I didn’t give any further details… Until now!
This past weekend I traveled to Montreal to attend a Blogger’s Retreat put on by Blogger’s Brunch! It was hosted by Kayley Reed, co-founder, and CEO of Wear Your Label, and Allie Beckwith, artist, photographer, and blogger.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am very shy at first and that I often at times turn down new experiences (even if it’s something I want to do) because of fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of not being liked, fear of being judged. However, this weekend was the complete opposite. Kayley and Allie’s main objective was to create a safe space. Space where you could be yourself, and not feel judged.
I woke up early and drove to Sain John to meet up with Allie. We had never met before, but we started talking as soon as we got in the car, and we talked the whole way to Fredericton, where we then picked up Kayley. Again, I had zero nerves and I wasn’t shy at all.
After a day of driving, we arrived in Montreal where Lina and Rachel already were! Lina and Rachel were the two other girls that were part of the retreat. We arrived at our cute apartment in the Plateau area. Our apartment was rented through Sonder.
The night started off with introductions on who we all were and what we were hoping to get out of the weekend. After freshening up we headed out to get dinner and sangria.
Friday morning we woke up and went for coffee and pastries before heading to a workshop that Kayley and Allie were putting on for us. Our workshop was held in a space that you can rent through Breather. Such a cute work space, and such a smart idea!
We had the room booked for an hour and a half and I couldn’t believe it when the time was up! It had felt as though we were only talking for 10 minutes. But I guess that is what happens when you get five eager, and inspired girl bosses all in one room!
My goal is to make a living by living – Allie Beckwith
After our workshop, we headed to Crudessence for a vegan lunch, and then we headed to Old Montreal for the afternoon and we had a photoshoot, shot by the talented Allie Beckwith.
Friday night, Kayley and Allie had a meeting, so Rachel and I decided to go get some snacks, stuff to make sangria, and we ordered pizza. Slumber Party 101!
Saturday, was the day! The day of Blogger’s Brunch. We headed to another Breather space located in Downtown Montreal, and the five of us got together with other bloggers and girl bosses from the Montreal area!
The brunch was sponsored by Elixir Smoothies, Ace Bakery, and Muthins. We also all received the sweetest gift bag with items from Industry Active, Lucky 7, True Face Cream, Wear your Label and Joe Fresh.
It was so great to be around so many like-minded people all weekend long. I met so many great women, and I am glad to have made new friends. New lifetime friends.
I took so much away from my time in Montreal, and more than anything I left feeling more knowledgeable and inspired. I can’t thank Kayley and Allie enough for A) putting this together but B) for being so open with us and providing us with so many tools, tips, and tricks. These two girls are so successful in what they do and I am beyond lucky to now have the two of them as mentors.
Blogger’s Brunch is in the process of organizing another retreat and I 100% recommend going! You will not only learn so much, but you will make some great new friends!
I encourage you to follow all of my new friends on Instagram, and to check out their blogs!
