Sometimes you just need to round up your best gals and get away. Even if getting away is just 35 minutes from home.
Away is away right?
This past weekend myself, and five of my friends packed up the car and headed to Oceanstone Seaside Resort, located on the South Shore just five minutes from Peggy’s Cove.
The cheapest time to visit Oceanstone is during their “off season” which runs from November 1st to May 31st. However they are open year round, just be aware that you will be paying more for your stay during their “in season” which falls between May 31st and October 31st. You can view their price list here.
We stayed in “Inn Suite 5” which was part of a little house (for lack of a better word). The house featured 5 rooms on the main floor and then our room was upstairs. Because our room was the bigger of the six, we had our own bar fridge and microwave directly in the room. However downstairs there was a common area which featured, a sitting area, a fridge and microwave, a water cooler, ice and a coffee machine.
On the Oceanstone property, there is a fantastic local restaurant called Rhubarb. We already knew when we booked that we were going to have supper here during our night away.
Unfortunately, we were not informed by the resort that it was suggested to make a reservation as it is a very popular restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant and were told that there weren’t any tables and that they were fully booked. Unless we wanted to eat outside. (If you ever plan to have dinner at Rhubarb, I suggest calling ahead to make a reservation).
It was a pretty chilly evening, however with an alcoholic beverage in hand and some blankets to keep us warm we happily ate dinner on the deck.
As I am attempting to follow vegetarianism (pescatarian is more appropriate in this context) I ordered the gluten free fish and chips. So good! Two of my friends ordered the special of the day which was linguine pasta with a bolognese sauce, two others ordered the ‘Saturday Burger’, and my vegan friend ordered the portobello burger. We were all very happy with our meals, and our bellies were very full at the end of it.
Even though we were all very full we couldn’t turn down the complimentary chocolates we were given for having to eat outside. In all honesty, eating outside was no big deal but you can’t say no to handmade chocolate! I didn’t get to eat the chocolate as I can’t eat dairy, but everyone said it was very good! The chocolate came from The Backdoor Bakeshop and the kind we were given were the salted caramels.
Our night was filled with drinks, card games, stories and many laughs. What more could you ask for when it comes to a girls weekend away? I am already planning my next Oceanstone stay!
